Man Paralyzed and Injured After Hit and Run Car Accident Recovers At Trial - Dallas, Texas

 

A jury awarded nearly $41 million to a man who sustained a paralyzing injury in an apparent hit-and-run accident. The suit's plaintiff, Matthew Falcone Jr., was injured while crossing a Brooklyn intersection in 2006, at the age of 49. In his suit, Falcone alleged that he was struck by a pickup truck that was being driven by Franklin Williams. Williams, who didn't stop until another motorist blocked his path, contended that Falcone merely brushed against one side of his truck, but Falcone's counsel produced photographs showing significant damage of the truck's windshield and front end. The jury blamed Williams, and it awarded $40,876,000 to Falcone, who suffers impairment of his cognitive functions and paralysis of one side of his body.

3-Children Injured In Hit-And-Run Car Accident Near Dallas, Texas

  

Three children were hospitalized after a hit-and-run crash late Thursday in Pleasant Grove.

The children were passengers in a white Plymouth minivan driving south on Masters Drive shortly after 11 p.m. when a silver Lincoln Navigator ran a stop sign at Muskogee Drive and struck them.

The man driving the van was unhurt, but four members of his family were taken to hospitals: his wife, an 8-year-old boy and two girls, ages 3 and 11.

The 3-year-old suffered the most serious injuries and was taken to Children's Medical Center at Dallas. None of the family's injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

The driver of the Navigator fled after the accident and remains at large. Police later found the sport utility vehicle abandoned in the back yard of a nearby home, with a tarp draped over damage from the crash.

Woman Injured In Hit-And-Run Car Crash Wins at Trial

A jury awarded nearly $4.2 million to a woman who claimed back and hip injuries in a hit-and-run accident. In 2006, Chela St. John-Parisian, then 57, claimed that she was sideswiped by an 18-wheel tractor-trailer before she crashed into a concrete median on Freeway 101 near Santa Barbara. The plaintiff, who underwent right hip labral surgery, blamed a Foster Farms truck driven by Jesus Sepulveda, who allegedly fled the scene. The defense denied any involvement in the crash and blamed an unidentified truck and driver, noting that the plaintiff couldn't recall the color of the subject truck. The plaintiff claimed that she sustained a compression and a burst facture at T12 and a right high labral tear.

Hit-And-Run Driver Kills Man On Highway 183

A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run accident this morning as he tried to cross State Highway 183 near D/FW Airport in Irving, police said.

The victim, a 23-year-old Hispanic man, was struck in an eastbound lane shortly before 6 a.m. Police said there was no indication the driver that hit him stopped at the scene, between the Valley View Lane and Esters Road exits.

Eastbound traffic on Highway 183 in Irving was brought to a standstill for hours afterward.

Investigators collected pieces from the vehicle that struck the man, whose name was not released pending notification of family members. They hadn't determined its make or model but said it probably suffered damage to the front end.
